Treasure of European Film Culture

On November 19th, the Tabernas Desert received the “Treasure of European Film Culture” award from the European Film Academy (EFA) at Oasys MiniHollywood.

This prestigious denomination, which puts Tabernas Desert on the world map of the filmmakers, became official with the inauguration of a monolith by Javier A. García, president of the Diputación de Almería, and the representative of the EFA, Antonio Saura.

In addition to them, the director of FICAL, the Diputación representative for Culture and Cinema, as well as representatives of the film academies, and of Tabernas council, witnessed the official unveiling at Oasys MiniHollywood.

The president of the Diputación highlighted the importance of the Tabernas Desert as the largest open-air film set on the planet, which has witnessed the shooting of the most important Western films in the past, the present and the future, and also emphasized the importance of Oasys MiniHollywood in the world of cinema, being the town created for Sergio Leone’s masterpiece.

Aditionally, Antonio Saura stated that giving this award was a privilege, since the 6,800 academics have chosen the Tabernas Desert as one of the most wonderful and prolific places for filming and currently there are only 12 cinematographic treasures in the world, being the Tabernas Desert one of them.

Once again, Oasys MiniHollywood supports culture and cinema in the province of Almería.
